Join the Canada China Business Council (CCBC) and the Canada China Chamber of Commerce (CCCC) in Toronto on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 6, 2026, to hear insights on China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and the evolving Canada–China business landscape.

Senior business leaders and stakeholders from across the Canada–China business community will come together for a high-level dialogue on China’s economic priorities under the 15th Five-Year Plan and their implications for commercial engagement. The program will highlight updates on recent developments in bilateral relations, alongside perspectives on the broader policy environment shaping business activity.

Participants will gain practical insights into key trends and considerations, including what Canadian companies should be monitoring as they navigate a shifting operating landscape in China. The session will also provide opportunities to engage with peers and foster meaningful connections within the business community.

Biography

The Honourable Scott Brison joined BMO as Vice-Chair, Investment & Corporate Banking in 2019. As an elected Member of Parliament, Mr. Brison served the constituency of Kings-Hants (Nova Scotia) who elected him to Canada’s House of Commons seven consecutive times over 21 years. During that time, he served in government for seven years holding key roles, most recently as President of the Treasury Board and Minister of Digital Government from 2015 to 2019, Minister of Public Works and Government Services from 2004 to 2006, and Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister with special emphasis on Canada-U.S. relations from 2003 to 2004.

 

In June 2020, Mr. Brison became Dalhousie University’s eighth chancellor.

 

Mr. Brison is a member of the Trilateral Commission and was named by the World Economic Forum of Davos, Switzerland, as one of its “Young Global Leaders.” In August 2010, he was awarded the Order of San Carlos by Colombian President Álvaro Uribe in recognition of his contributions to the Canada-Colombia Free Trade Agreement.

 

Mr. Brison has formerly served as a board member for both Universal Rail Systems and the MacDonald Stewart Foundation. He also previously served as Chairman of SeaFort Capital Inc. Presently, he holds active positions on the boards of the Canada China Business Council (CCBC), Canadian Jewish Political Affairs Committee (CJPAC), the advisory board of the Canadian American Business Council (CABC), Power Sustainable and High Liner Foods Inc.

 

Mr. Brison earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Dalhousie University. He has completed the Global Leadership and Public Policy for the 21st Century Executive Education Program at the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government.

Biography

Mr. LUO Weidong was born in December 1967 and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree.

He began his career in 1990 in the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, which is now the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China.

He assumed his role as Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Toronto in September 2023.

Bijan Ahmadi

Biography

Bijan Ahmadi is the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the Canada China Business Council (CCBC), where he leads the Council’s strategic direction, operations, and programming across all seven chapters in Canada and China. In this capacity, he also serves on CCBC’s Board of Directors and its Executive Committee.

As a recognized voice in Canada–China relations, Bijan works closely with senior executives, policymakers, and institutional partners to strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties, advance member services, and position Canadian companies for success in the Chinese market. His work focuses on translating policy and regulatory developments into practical insights for business leaders and supporting high-level commercial engagement between the two countries.

Prior to joining CCBC, Bijan co-founded and served as Executive Director of the Institute for Peace & Diplomacy (IPD) from 2018 to 2024, where he helped build the organization into a respected binational foreign policy think tank operating in Canada and the United States. During this period, he launched IPD’s Asia research program and its annual flagship conference, the Indo-Pacific Strategy Forum (IPSF) in Ottawa, now widely regarded as Canada’s leading platform for policy and economic dialogue on the Asia-Pacific region. He was also co-editor of Canada–China Brief, an online policy publication covering political and economic developments in the bilateral relationship.

Throughout his work on China, Bijan has advised multinational corporations and small and medium-sized enterprises on navigating Canada–China trade, regulatory, and policy environments. He has led Track 2 and Track 1.5 dialogue initiatives in partnership with Chinese, Canadian and American institutions and he regularly delivers lectures and professional training on Canada–China economic relations for public and private sector audiences.

Bijan also serves on the Advisory Board of the Canada China Forum, a platform dedicated to nurturing the next generation of China-competent Canadian professionals.

He holds a Master’s degree in Global Diplomacy from SOAS University of London and a Master of Applied Science from the University of Toronto. Earlier in his career, he worked in strategy and management roles in the financial services and real estate sectors and has served on the boards of several Canadian non-profits and NGOs, including the Toronto branch of the Canadian International Council.

Biography

Lydia was appointed Representative of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) / China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC) Representative Office in Canada in February 2026. She is responsible for promoting bilateral trade and business engagement between China and Canada, and represents the Canada China Chamber of Commerce (CCCC) in supporting its secretariat work.

 

Prior to her current role, Lydia spent nearly a decade at the Department of International Relations of CCPIT, serving as Director for North America and Oceania affairs. In this capacity, she oversaw regional affairs, organized inbound and outbound business delegations, and led the organization of meetings between Chinese government leaders and senior executives of multinational corporations and international business organizations.

 

Earlier in her career, she worked for more than ten years at the Ministry of Commerce of China, where she held a Deputy Director position with a focus on international economic cooperation and development assistance. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Renmin University of China.

Jack Yu

Biography

Jack Yu (于华洲) is an experienced business lawyer, with a focus on private mergers & acquisition and cross-border transactions. Mr. Yu has advised clients on over several billion dollars of M&A, private equity, corporate reorganization, and complex commercial transactions, spanning across multiple industries and sectors.

 

As Co-Leader of the firm’s China Practice Group, Mr. Yu regularly travels to China and is actively involved in the Asian legal community in Canada. He is often relied on by Chinese clients both from overseas and in Canada for sophisticated transactions and day-to-day legal issues. Mr. Yu also has experience in the foreign investments review process in Canada.

 

Prior to attending law school, Mr. Yu earned an undergraduate degree in biochemistry and philosophy from the University of Toronto. He is on the Board of the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers, Ontario Chapter. Born and raised in Jinan, Shandong, Mr. Yu is fluent in Mandarin.

Jeff Zhang

Biography

Jeff has over 20 years of international experience in private, public and non-profit organizations in a variety of sectors including E-commerce, oil and gas, retail, commercial real estate, education and financial services. Prior to joining CCBC, Jeff worked in establishment and operation management at a Sino-Foreign joint venture company and in strategic partnership management at a Fortune 500 multinational company. He also led and assisted a number of Canadian companies and educational institutions into China where he was responsible for strategic partnerships and branding establishment.

Jeff has an MBA in marketing and international business from Concordia University in Montreal and is fluent in Mandarin and English. He has also been a guest speaker at professional business associations in China and Canada.
