David Carbonaro is the CEO of GIC. He is also a senior lawyer who practiced securities, corporate finance, mining and international law. He has been instrumental in heading up strategic initiatives for Canadian clients in China and the Middle East and uses his legal and business expertise to assisting Canadian companies in accessing the tremendous opportunities available in these emerging markets. Mr. Carbonaro was appointed as special counsel to the Toronto Stock Exchange for the purposes of presenting the opportunities on the TSX to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia investment community at Tadawul in Riyadh(the Saudi Stock Exchange). He has extensive experience in international business and has advised companies doing business in Africa, Asia, and the Middle-East and North America.

 

Marti Anne Falcone has been with Export Development Canada (EDC) over 20 years. She is currently the Regional Manager for Asia, responsible for trade identification, development and creation in the region. She brings to the role her considerable experience in international trade facilitation, insurance and business development as well as her in-depth understanding of EDC’s products and services.

Prior to her current role, Ms. Falcone worked with the Resources, Credits Insurance team as an Underwriter, where she managed the agricultural equipment and forestry portfolios. Her previous roles include: Credit Analyst; Recovery Services Manager; and Underwriter – Contracts and Bonding, where she gained invaluable insight into client’s varied exporting requirements.

Ms. Falcone’s background in contract negotiations, debt restructurings and financial analysis has enabled her to deliver high-quality financial solutions to Canadian exporters in a variety of sectors, including agricultural equipment, forestry, infrastructure, transportation and oil and gas.

 

Bob Guo is the founder and CEO of Goldenmount Capital International Inc. He is a seasoned insightful financial executive, team builder, and business leader with international market development skills and has extensive experience in public and private companies as Board member, executive, and advisor. He currently sits on the Board of a Chinese public issuer, China Anhui Xinke New Materials Co., Ltd. (SHA:600255), and a Canadian public issuer, China Wind Power (TSX-V: CNW); he was a Board member of Environmental Waste International Inc. (TSX-V: EWS). Previously, Bob worked for TD and BMO Nesbitt Burns providing financial and advisory services to corporate and individual investors. He was given the Chinese Business Excellence Award for his expertise and professional services.

 

Paul Jones: Most of our work is related to intellectual property protection, distribution, licensing and franchising, and associated litigation, in the PRC, and to a lesser extent, Southeast Asia and the Russian Federation. We have considerable experience in using the PRC court system.

Paul is the designated reporter on Anti-Monopoly Law Developments in China for the ABA Antitrust Section. In March 2012 He presented a seminar on “Trade Secret Protection in China” for an internal training program for senior U.S. government officials in Washington DC. He is the expert on franchising in China for the International Distribution Institute in Turin, Italy.

 

Sarah Kutulakos joined the CCBC in 2007 and has since revitalized CCBC’s role as Canada’s premier bilateral trade and investment organization. Sarah has re-centered the Council’s activities around providing business services, catalyzing business growth and activity, and advocating for stronger Sino-Canadian bilateral trade and investment. This has resulted in extensive public outreach activities, internal infrastructure improvements, the launch of new programs such as the Business Incubation Centre, and thriving member relations.

Prior to joining CCBC, Sarah worked for 11 years in marketing, product development, and management with a major multinational corporation, where she had multiple assignments involving China. Sarah managed worldwide product businesses that marketed to China and used China-based sources of supply. She was also involved in several projects requiring cooperation with the Chinese government. Sarah has led both established and start-up businesses within the context of a global corporation and has broad emerging market business experience, and has been involved in the Greater China region since the late 1980’s when she lived and worked in Taiwan. There, she was the first non-Chinese employee of a local high-tech start-up firm, where she gained a deep understanding of Chinese business practices.

A fluent Mandarin speaker, Sarah’s interest in China began at the University of Wisconsin, where she studied Chinese, marketing, and international business. She holds an MBA in finance and operations from the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester. She frequently speaks on China issues, including marketing, trade, investment, and Canada-China relations.

 

Dumitru Olariu has worked for more than 30 years with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office – an Agency of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, first as a Patent Examiner, then as a Business Development Officer. Before that, he worked for 6 years in the electronics industry. He is a Professional Engineer, and his educational background includes a MSc in Electrical Engineering and a MBA.

 

Reesa Shurgold’s career in trade finance spans over 36 years. She is mandated with attracting new Trade Finance business to the Bank, as well as providing trade finance and working capital product support and advice to corporate clients and
prospects.

Reesa works with Relationship Managers to structure risk mitigation solutions, through traditional and non-traditional trade products.

Reesa was elected to the Board of Directors of The Association of Canadian Importers and Exporters in 2009, and to IE Canada’s Advocacy Council in 2014. Reesa was also appointed to the Program Advisory Committee for Centennial College’s International Business Program in 2011.
