Frequently Asked Questions

Why incubation?

Business incubation is a proven system of infrastructure, networks, and tools that support the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) as they enter new markets or areas of growth. For SMEs expanding into China, the first few years are critical for establishing a business structure, building connections with suppliers, customers, and other partners, accessing fund sources, and gaining market exposure. The additional challenge of navigating what are often unfamiliar social, cultural, legal and economic frameworks add to the complexity that SMEs face at the incubation stage. Incubation bridges many of these uncertainties and challenges, allowing companies to manage risk and achieve results more quickly.

Do I need to register a company to use the Business Incubation Centre (BIC)?

One of the advantages of using the BIC is that you do not need to immediately register a company in China. Many SMEs first need to explore the different types of corporate structures available in China, as well as China’s many cities and regions, before formally registering a company. The BIC allows you to explore your options in China without making a large initial investment in infrastructure  and other necessities.

For companies that are looking to register a corporate entity in Shanghai, we have some options available in relation to the provision of a legal permanent address for your company for the registration process while using the BIC.

Can I use an address and will I have my own phone and fax number in the Business Incubation Centre?

Yes, as a user of the BIC, you will have a mailing address, phone number and fax number in China. You can also choose between a private dedicated phone line or an extension that is answered by our receptionist.

How do I staff my incubation desk and who can access incubation services?

Incubation services are ideally suited for a variety of individuals. From executives who travel frequently to China, to company representatives that need a place to meet with potential clients, or the dedicated employee who occupies a desk each day, our incubation services will cater to your requirements. Should you seek a China-based employee, we can recommend a third-party human resources service to you to help with hiring local staff.
