Winners of the 4th Canada-China Business Excellence Awards

The CCBC would like to congratulate the winners of the 4th Canada-China Business Excellence Awards, which was presented on November 28, 2014 in Toronto. The biennial awards recognize organizations that have played a leading and innovative role in growing and expanding business relationships between Canada and China. The awards have gained respect and participation from top performing organizations.

A total of 36 nominations were received in five categories. An independent panel of judges evaluated the nominations, and the three finalists in each category are listed below, in alphabetical order:

Exceptional SME Award

The Exceptional SME Award is presented to a small and medium-sized enterprise that best exemplifies the innovative inclusion of China in the company’s growth and overall business strategy. The successful implementation of such initiative has significantly improved the company’s competitive edge and financial performance.

Winners:

  • Gold award: Phase Separation Solutions
  • Silver award: Préfontaine Exportation Inc. (JV with Dongguan Laurentide Paint Co. Ltd.)
  • Bronze award: MedMira Inc.

Educational Excellence Award

The Educational Excellence Award is presented to a CCBC member from the education sector (secondary, post-secondary and other). The institution demonstrated outstanding achievement in delivering China-related growth including, but not limited to, research partnerships, recruitment, student/faculty exchanges, alumni relations, institution linkages, executive training, and provision of Canadian curriculum. There was a tie for the gold award:

  • Gold award: Ivey Business School
  • Gold award: Simon Fraser University
  • Silver award: Queen’s School of Business

Chinese Investment in Canada Award

The Chinese Investment in Canada Award is presented to an organization that has demonstrated ingenuity, success, leadership, and commitment involving inbound investment from China, contributing to bilateral economic growth and to the company’s international success.

Winners:

  • Gold awards: Century Iron Mines Corp.
  • Silver awards: Siwin Food Ltd.
  • Bronze awards: Selwyn Chihong Mining Ltd.

Professional, Scientific and Technical Services Award

The Professional, Scientific and Technical Services Award is presented to an organization in the professional, scientific, and technical service sectors that can demonstrate successful inclusion of China in the company’s growth and its overall business strategy. Nominees should show how their initiative helped distinguish themselves from competitors and how they best exemplified professionalism, excellence, customer service and integrity in the last two years.

Winners:

  • Gold awards: Hill+Knowlton Strategies
  • Silver awards: CSA Group
  • Bronze awards: Gowlings

Outstanding Member Award

The Outstanding Member Award is presented to a CCBC member organization, irrespective of size or industry, which has had high profile and successful business initiatives or projects in the last two years. The organization undertook bold new ventures, which resulted in commercial success and distinction from its competitors.

Winners:

  • Gold award: Teck Resources
  • Silver award: Vancouver Economic Commission
  • Bronze award: Air China

Awards Ceremony

Winners were announced at an awards ceremony on November 28, 2014 in Toronto, in the presence of the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien, key business executives, and senior government and business leaders from Canada and China.
