In 2024, Canadian Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) are navigating new challenges in school partnerships and student recruitment in China. Recent announcements from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) about study permit application caps, provincial attestation letter (PAL) processes, and changes to post-graduate work permits and spousal work permit eligibility have introduced uncertainties. Though still a top destination for Chinese students, Canada now faces intense competition from the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Asian countries. To maintain their competitive edge, Canadian educational institutions must actively engage with their Chinese counterparts.
The Canada China Business Council (CCBC) is organizing the 2024 Canadian Education Mission to China, comprised of participants from Canadian universities, colleges, high schools, language centres, and educational service companies. The Mission will include face-to-face meetings with counterparts from Chinese universities, colleges, high schools, educational service companies, and Chinese officials from the affiliated organizations of the Ministry of Education. Two routes are planned for school visits and meetings on November 13 and 14, focusing on school partnerships and recruitments across 12 destinations. On November 15, CCBC will host the 2024 Canada Education Forum, inviting representatives from Chinese universities, colleges, high schools, and education agencies across China to engage with our Mission delegates.
The three-day Mission will also encompass CCBC’s signature annual event, the 46th AGM & Business Forum, which convenes executives and dignitaries involved in Canada-China business. Delegates are provided complimentary access to the morning and evening portions of that event, offering excellent networking opportunities for Mission delegates in the Canada-China business community. Furthermore, local educational service companies will provide opportunities for Canadian schools to hold mini-education fairs at their facilities in the days following the Mission.
