Economic Update with the Consul General of the PRC in Calgary

On May 12, 2021, Consul General LU Xu of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Calgary, along with Jodi Banks, Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Trade and Export Development of the Government of Saskatchewan, and Tristan Sanregret, Executive Director International Relations and Trade for the Ministry of Jobs, Economy and Innovation of the Government of Alberta, participated in a CCBC virtual event.

 

In the wake of China’s most recent economic plans, Consul General LU Xu, discussed the bilateral opportunities in China, specifically for companies in the Prairies.

 

Jodi Banks spoke about the role of China markets for her province and how local organizations can capitalize on the China opportunities. Tristan Sanregret offered remarks during the presentation.

About the Speakers

 

Jodi Banks
Deputy Minister, Ministry of Trade and Export Development at Government of Saskatchewan

 

Jodi Banks is the Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Trade and Export Development.

 

Jodi has 30 years of experience in the public sector. She has worked in the Livestock and Policy Branches of Saskatchewan Agriculture, as well as in the Canadian Intergovernmental Relations Branch of Intergovernmental Affairs, Saskatchewan Executive Council.

 

Jodi received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Regina in 1991 and a Master of Public Administration from the Johnson-Shoyama School of Public Policy, University of Regina in 2006.

 

Consul General LU Xu
Consulate General of the PRC in Calgary

 

Consul General LU Xu is the sixth Chinese Consul General in Calgary. She was born in Jiangsu Province and trained as a career diplomat at the Foreign Affairs Academy in the Chinese capital city, Beijing. She worked at the Chinese foreign missions in Prague, Bratislava, San Francisco and London.

 

Tristan Sanregret
Executive Director International Relations and Trade for the Ministry of Jobs, Economy and Innovation, Government of Alberta

 

Philippe Jeanneau
Director Western Canada, Canada China Business Council

 

Philippe is responsible for building the CCBC membership base by connecting Canadian and Chinese businesses, promoting bilateral trade, organizing events, and delivering member services.

 

He has over 15 years of business experience in product design and development, consumer marketing, global trade, overseas manufacturing and sourcing. Prior to joining CCBC, Philippe owned a product design, development and sourcing business that connected Canadian companies with Chinese manufacturers. He worked for industry-leading companies including Reebok, Adidas, and CCM Hockey where he managed the development of state-of-the-art composite ice hockey sticks. Philippe also lived in Shanghai for a year to establish a Canadian-owned factory. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering, specialized in aeronautics, from the Polytechnique Montréal.
