On June 10, the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service (TCS), in partnership with the Ontario Government and Canada China Business Council (CCBC), hosted a Greater China Network Cleantech virtual series where the Government of Canada Embassy and Consulates shared updates from their respective markets. This series was broken down into several parts and provided updates and views from the ground, including observations and impacts of COVID-19 on the cleantech sector in Greater China. Sessions also included information on upcoming initiatives, as well as guest speakers and an in-depth analysis of selected subsectors.

The Chinese waste management sector is at a turning point. Waste and recycling industry restructuring is progressing rapidly, and national government efforts continue to increase. The pilot project for waste-free cities launched beginning in 2020 makes this clear, and integrated waste management adds a climate-relevant aspect to these efforts. Webinar attendees heard from two Shanghai-based experts on China’s burgeoning solid-waste market and how Canadian companies can get involved.
