On July 8, the Canada China Business Council (CCBC) co-hosted the 5th Forum on China–Québec Cooperation in Montreal with the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Montreal. The forum brought together government representatives, business leaders, and industry stakeholders from the Canada-China business community to discuss opportunities to strengthen trade, investment, and commercial cooperation between Quebec and Shandong Province.
The program opened with welcoming remarks from senior representatives of government and industry, including DAI Yuming, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Montreal; Mathieu Parenteau, Director, Indo-Pacific, Latin America and Caribbean, Ministry of International Relations and La Francophonie; Hon. Martin Cauchon, Counsel, Prelia Canada, and Vice-Chair, Canada China Business Council; Bijan Ahmadi, Executive Director & COO, Canada China Business Council; and CHEN Baiwei, Director General, Foreign Affairs Office of Shandong Province, and President, Shandong People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. Speakers underscored the importance of continued dialogue and commercial engagement between Quebec and China.
Following a networking tea break, the forum featured a panel discussion on strengthening China–Québec cooperation. Moderated by Claire Zhang, Director, Québec & Atlantic Chapter, Canada China Business Council, the discussion featured Andy Moorhouse, Vice-President, Economic Development, Makivvik Corporation; Vincent Joli-Coeur, Chairman, Asia Pacific; Vice-Chairman, Capital Markets; Chief Representative, Hong Kong Representative Office, National Bank of Canada; Dominic Desmarais, Chief Solutions Officer, Liya Solutions Limited; and Chris Guo, Director General, Bio Explorer Canada. Panelists shared perspectives on the evolving Canada–China business environment and opportunities to deepen commercial cooperation between Quebec and China.
The afternoon concluded with a networking cocktail, providing participants with an opportunity to continue discussions, strengthen existing relationships, and connect with members of the Canadian and Chinese business communities.
