On January 10, 2024, CCBC members had the chance to engage with Jean-Christian Brillant<\/strong>, Minister (Commercial), from the Embassy of Canada in China. Many topics were discussed, including the state of the Canada-China relations, the Indo-Pacific Strategy, opportunities and challenges for Canadian companies in the China market, and Canada\u2019s regime for attracting foreign investment. The conversation was positive and forward-looking, as many sectors of the Canadian economy were represented, including entertainment, finance, manufacturing, logistics, transportation and more.<\/p>\n

Jean-Christian emphasized the importance of Canadian companies continuing to proactively engage in China in a way that allows them to seize opportunities while managing the risks associated with this complex market. Despite a continued challenging situation bilaterally, trade numbers between the two countries remain strong, and China, with its large consumer market, presents significant growth opportunities.<\/p>\n

During the discussion, questions were raised on the economic situation in China and challenges ahead for Canadian companies. Jean-Christian emphasized the need for a pragmatic approach as China\u2019s prominence on the global stage will undoubtedly continue to increase. The discussion was followed by a cocktail session.
