On September 18, 2023, CCBC held a networking breakfast briefing with visiting Trade Commissioners from the Canadian Embassy of Beijing and the Consulate General of Canada in Shanghai in downtown Vancouver. Jonathan Brasnett<\/strong>, Second Secretary, Trade Commissioner, Consumer products, Trade Commissioner Service, and Samuel Boateng<\/strong>, Consul & Trade Commissioner, Consulate General of Canada in Shanghai, provided a briefing on the Chinese market opportunities and shared insights from the ground in China. Questions from the audience were moderated by David Fung<\/strong>, CCBC Vice-Chair, creating an interactive and engaging experience.<\/p>\n

Samuel Boateng is an international trade professional who works with multinational firms, SMEs and entrepreneurs to develop their international business development strategies and grow their exports. After spending nearly a decade working in international business development and marketing for multimillion dollar brands and start-ups, Samuel believes that it is imperative for companies to think globally while developing their business development strategies no matter what stage they are in. For the past four years, Samuel has been working with Global Affairs Canada\u2019s Trade Commissioner Service to provide strategic international business development advice to Canadian companies in their quest to get export ready and thrive in the global marketplace.<\/p>\n

Samuel holds a BA in public policy and administration from York University, a MA in public and international affairs from the University of Ottawa, and holds a CITP\u00ae|FIBP\u00ae designation from the Forum for International Trade Training (FITT).<\/p>\n

Jonathan Brasnett, Second Secretary and Trade Commissioner (Consumer Products) at the Embassy of Canada to the People\u2019s Republic of China, began his role in Beijing September 2022. He works with a team of highly experienced local staff to promote Canadian brands in a variety of consumer products sub-sectors, from apparel and accessories, home d\u00e9cor and sports equipment, to mother and baby products, natural health products and cosmetics. He helps Canadian companies develop strategies for success in the China market and find suitable partners to facilitate sales through either online or offline channels. Jonathan has had a long-standing interest in China, first coming to Beijing in 2012 to study Mandarin. He has a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University, a Master\u2019s from the University of British Columbia and a PhD from the University of Ottawa, all focusing on Chinese language, culture, history and politics.<\/p>\n
