Before founding Cairdrow, Mr. Mercier spent well over a decade at Brookfield Asset Management in various leadership roles, including Head of Asia Real Estate, Country Head for China, and Global Head of Strategic Initiatives for Brookfield\u2019s property group. While based in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and most recently Singapore, he established Brookfield\u2019s real estate platform in Asia, growing it into a $15 billion portfolio and building a high-performing team of over 400 professionals across China, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan. His expertise spans a wide range of sectors and structures, from single asset turnarounds to complex corporate transactions. Mr. Mercier also led Brookfield\u2019s expansion into renewable energy and private equity in China.<\/p>\n

A champion of inclusive and sustainable growth, Mr. Mercier launched Brookfield Cares, a charitable initiative supporting education and healthcare for underprivileged children in China. He spearheaded Brookfield\u2019s sustainability efforts in Asia, overseeing the firm\u2019s first net-zero corporate office and earning recognition as a 2022 finalist for ESG Leader of the Year in China.<\/p>\n

Mr. Mercier is a Board Member of the Canada China Business Council and serves as a Global Trustee and APAC Executive Committee member of the Urban Land Institute, the pre-eminent global non-profit focused on building a sustainable built environment.<\/p>\n

He holds a BA from Bishop\u2019s University in Canada and an MBA from the University of Hong Kong and London Business School, where he was awarded the \u201cNew Generation of Leaders\u201d scholarship. His responsibilities include advancing Alberta\u2019s priorities with Chinese government and industry stakeholders, supporting ministerial and senior official visits, facilitating commercial opportunities for Alberta exporters and investors, and strengthening Alberta\u2019s presence across key sectors including energy, agriculture, petrochemicals, and broader economic cooperation.<\/p>\n
Prior to his current role, Amir held leadership positions supporting Alberta\u2019s broader international engagement, including Senior Director of International Intergovernmental Relations, where he was responsible for Alberta\u2019s Indo-Pacific and Middle East government-to-government initiatives, and Director of Alberta\u2019s India Offices. Across these roles, he advanced Alberta\u2019s trade, investment, diplomatic, and policy objectives in complex and high-growth markets, while building strong relationships with foreign governments, business leaders, and institutional partners.<\/p>\n
Amir holds a Master of Public Administration from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada, with a specialization in Economic Policy. Following his time in politics, Chris held senior government relations roles in the insurance, financial, and automotive sectors. He also worked with the international non-profit Right to Play, building on his earlier experience in India and Bangladesh as an administrator for a Canadian NGO.<\/p>\n

Chris holds a Master\u2019s degree in Political Science from the University of Windsor, as well as a Graduate Diploma and an Honours BA from the University of Ottawa. Outside of work, Chris remains active and is deeply engaged in his community, and is a proud supporter of Special Olympics Canada.
