Please register here to watch the livestream via Zoom. \nAbout the Speakers: \nMr. DAI Yuming\nConsul General of the People’s Republic of China in Montreal \nMr. DAI Yuming has held the position of the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Montreal since December 2022. \nSince 1992\, he held various positions in the Department of African Affairs\, Department of Personnel and Department of Policy Planning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China\, and served several terms at the Chinese Embassies in Liberia\, the United States\, Sierra Leone\, Namibia\, and Israel. He was also Deputy Mayor of Sanya City\, Hainan Province\, from 2016 to 2019. \n \nPonora Ang\nPartner\, Co-Leader Asia-Pacific Group\nFasken \nPonora Ang is a partner at Fasken and the Co-Leader of the Asia Pacific Group of the firm. \nHe is a manufacturing and product liability lawyer. In addition to his commercial litigation practice\, Mr. Ang is well known to companies in the Asia-Pacific region for his legal and strategic advice regarding investment and implementation projects in Canada. He advises businesses from China\, Japan\, Korea and Southeast Asia in different industries for their operations in Canada. \nMr. Ang counsels and represents clients in the areas of real estate\, product liability\, manufacturing\, sale and leasing\, insurance and franchise law. He is regularly asked to represent the interests of manufacturers\, producers\, distributors and sellers in the automotive\, medical\, security and aviation industries. In addition\, he regularly advises state-owned enterprises\, private companies and individuals from Asia seeking to expand their business activities in Canada in a variety of industries. \nHe also received YBAM’s Lawyer of the Year 2010 award in civil and commercial litigation. Mr. Ang was also recognized in the prestigious Lexpert Rising Star 2021 / Top 40 Under 40 in Canada list for his legal expertise. In addition\, in 2023\, he was awarded the Medal of the National Assembly of Québec in honour of his numerous engagements for the society over the years. \nMr. Ang continued to be also involved in a number of committees and boards of directors in Québec\, both in business and trade associations as well as for charitable organizations. In addition to his professional practice and community involvement\, he is also a caregiver whose daily life was the subject of a documentary by ICI Radio-Canada in 2022. \n \nThe Honourable Martin Cauchon\, P.C.\, LL.M.\, ICD.D\, Ad. E.\nCounsel\nDS Lawyers Canada LLP \nMartin Cauchon has had a distinguished career. First elected as a Member of Parliament in October 1993\, he has held many positions in the Government of Canada. He has served as Secretary of State (Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec)\, Minister of National Revenue\, and Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada. In 2013\, he was an official candidate in the leadership race of the Liberal Party of Canada. From 2015 to 2019\, he was also a shareholder and Executive Chairman of Groupe Capitales Médias\, which gave him a better understanding of the challenges facing the print media in a digital world. \nMr. Cauchon’s unparalleled experience in government and the private sector has given him a deep understanding of a wide range of issues. As counsel at DS Lawyers Canada\, he advises companies on the various issues facing the knowledge economy and the globalization of markets\, taking into account geopolitical factors. Mr. Cauchon also facilitates the creation of partnerships at the provincial\, national\, and international levels. \nHaving established relationships with several counterparts in China\, Mr. Cauchon has acquired a good knowledge of that market\, which allows him to intervene in projects that are related to the Canada-China relationship. \nAfter obtaining a law degree from the University of Ottawa\, Mr. Cauchon became a member of the Quebec Bar in 1985 and completed a master degree in International Business Law in 1991\, at the University of Exeter\, in England. He was the 2004 recipient of the Equality Forum’s International Role Model Award. In 2015\, he received the honorary distinction of “Advocatus emeritus” and “Le Mérite” from the Quebec Bar. He is also Vice Chair\, Board of Directors of the Canada China Business Council and President of its Quebec Chapter. He also serves on the board of directors of several companies. \n \nDr. DENG Jun\nPresident and CEO\, Bank of China (Canada)\nPrincipal Officer\, Bank of China Toronto Branch \nDr. DENG Jun\, President and CEO of Bank of China (Canada) and Principal Officer of Bank of China Toronto Branch\, holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Wuhan University and has played an integral role in the Bank of China Group since 1990. His journey within the Bank includes key positions that underscore his expertise. \nIn 2001\, he served as General Manager of the Bank of China Wuhan ETD Branch\, contributing significantly to the Bank’s growth. In 2006\, he took on the role of Deputy Managing Director at Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Auto Finance Company Ltd.\, a joint venture between Bank of China Group Insurance Company Ltd.\, Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroen Automobile Company Ltd. and Banque PSA Finance. \nIn 2009\, Dr. Deng was appointed Assistant General Manager at the Bank of China Limited Head Office Corporate Banking Group and in 2012\, he became Country Head of Bank of China Limited – Manila Branch\, showcasing his versatility on the international stage. Since October of the same year\, he has been fulfilling his current roles\, leading as President and CEO of Bank of China (Canada) and Principal Officer of Bank of China Toronto Branch. \n \nLory Wang\nCEO\nArctica Food Group Canada Inc. \nLory Wang is a foodie and second-generation entrepreneur. After her studies in finance and accounting\, and several years auditing SMEs\, she decided to take the plunge. With the awakening of the Chinese market for imported goods and her love of food\, she co-founded Arctica Food Group Canada in 2012. The group’s mission has always been to offer natural\, healthy and delicious food\, with a certain cachet\, in which west meets east. Arctica Food became the pioneer and leading brand in Canadian wild sea cucumbers and established Quebec’s sea cucumber industry. Since the Chinese middle class clientele is open-minded but exposed to too many options\, Arctica Food focuses on food education to build product recognition and brand loyalty. Food brings us closer; let’s share it together! \n \nDr. Philippe Wang\nFounder and President\, Chidaca International Inc. \nFounder and President\, Canadian Chinese Entrepreneurs Council \nSince his arrival in Quebec over 30 years ago\, Mr. Philippe Wang\, a well-known and influential business leader\, has been actively engaged in the community and business sector\, particularly within the Sino-Canadian community. Over the years\, Mr. Wang has founded and chaired several companies that have excellently demonstrated successful integration by balancing cultural differences and commercial success\, while enjoying an outstanding reputation in their industry\, both locally and internationally. \nMr. Wang is one of the earliest speakers and promoters in Quebec on economic and trade exchanges between Canada and China. Mr. Perez-Des Rosiers has a diverse background with experience in marketing\, consulting\, research\, and as a Parole Officer for the Correctional Service of Canada. He was previously the Director of International Education at NLC\, as well as Manager\, International Education\, at Ontario Tech University. Prior to working in Higher Education\, Mr. Clerk had roles in immigration and settlement services\, and international cooperation. He holds an M.A. in Political Economy of Development from the University of Toronto\, and a B.A. Honours in Global Development Studies and Economics from Queen’s University. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Higher Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE)\, University of Toronto. \n \nAllison Yokom\nSenior Director\, International Undergraduate Enrolment\nQueen’s University \nAs a Senior Director\, International Undergraduate Enrolment for Queen’s University\, Canada\, Allison Yokom brings 20 years of experience in working in post-secondary education in Canada. A graduate of Lakehead University\, she started her career in Student Affairs and has since gained a wealth of experience in areas including International Curriculums and Admission Standards; Recruitment; Equity\, Diversity\, Inclusivity\, and Indigeneity; Strategic Enrolment Management; Student Transition Programming; and Transfer and Mobility. Recognizing the merit and achievement of diverse students is her passion and because of this continues to streamline admission processes\, evaluate\, and clarify admission requirements\, and advocate for equitable assessment of applicants. As the lead developer of the First-Generation Admission policy at Queen’s\, she expanded outreach and access to PSE to students from underrepresented areas and equity deserving backgrounds. Ms. Yokom has personally completed thousands of recruitment events and activities around the world\, reviewed tens of thousands of applications and helped to shape the student body at Queen’s today. \n \nNick Huang\nDirector\, East and South East Asia Region\nSeneca Polytechnic \nNick Huang leads a team of Business Development Managers that promotes Seneca Polytechnic in the East and South East Asia region. He is involved in many areas of international students’ recruitment\, such as attending education fairs\, hosting agencies partners events\, and participating in conferences and seminars. He also partakes in visiting high schools\, colleges\, universities and language schools. The East and South East Asia team focuses on student recruitment\, developing new recruitment markets\, as well as identifying potential partner institutions to create joint educational partnerships with Seneca\, such as exchange or study-abroad programs. In addition\, Mr. Huang’s team develops the Seneca brand\, promotes Seneca programs\, and establishes short-term/contract-training opportunities for Seneca in the East and South East Asia region. \nMr. Huang was a professional classical musician in China before he immigrated to Canada in 1990. He plays bassoon and saxophone with various ensembles and orchestras in Toronto during his free time. He speaks English\, Mandarin and Russian. \n \nHugo Chen\nDirector of International Collaborations & Partnerships\nYork University \nHugo Chen has devoted over 15 years to international education and administration\, notably enhancing York University’s Faculty of Science’s global presence since becoming Director of International Collaborations & Partnerships in 2021. Spearheading international collaborations and student recruitment\, he also served as Interim Assistant Dean from February to August 2023\, solidifying the Faculty’s stature through adept leadership in student advising and enrollment strategies. She served as the Chair of New Dawn Enterprises and currently serves on the boards of EduNova and Languages Canada. \nWith a proven track record of success and a steadfast commitment to educational excellence\, Ms. MacKenzie continues to make significant contributions to international collaboration in both education and business. \n \nPaul Pu\nDirector\, The Erindale Academy/Toronto Central Academy\nPresident\, Global Youth Challenge \nPaul Pu’s research interests encompass educational leadership\, transitional education for international students\, and the intersection of AI and education. His leadership philosophy is structured around two core dimensions: the 6C Interaction Dimension\, comprising Communication\, Connection\, Community\, Collaboration\, Critical Thinking\, and Creativity\, and the VIA Success Dimension\, which focuses on Vision\, Innovation\, and Action. In acknowledgment of his contributions to education\, the University of Toronto established the Paul Pu Educational Leadership Award. \nMr. Pu possesses extensive teaching experience across various educational levels\, including universities\, colleges\, and high schools in Canada\, the US\, and China. His notable assignments include positions at the State University of New York\, US\, and Humber College\, Canada. \nGuided by the credo “to add value to people by helping them reach their potential\,” Mr. Pu continues to make significant contributions to the field of education. \nMaureen Elizondo\nImmigration Specialist \nMaureen Elizondo is a self-employed immigration consultant with over 35 years of experience in all areas of Canadian immigration law. Ms. Elizondo is a former immigration officer and was subsequently employed as a law clerk to many well renowned immigration lawyers in Canada before opening her own immigration consulting service in 1991. Presently Ms. Elizondo is considered an international student expert with the Canadian Association of Professional Immigration Consultants (CAPIC). Additionally\, she is the in-house legal representative at the North American Canadian English Academy and International Student Agency (NACEA). NACEA operates as an online ESL academy with certified Teachers of English as a Second Language and an international student agency with partnerships with over 20 public and private colleges and universities across Canada. Ms. Elizondo provides counsel and guidance to international students\, helping them select suitable courses at the appropriate faculty with their goals in mind. Ms. Elizondo is honoured to be part of this panel and has valuable insight\, opinions and experiences to share. \n \nJoey Ye\nDirector\, Digital & Client Success\, RBC Newcomer & Cultural Client Segment\nRBC \nJoey Ye is the Director\, Newcomer & Cultural Client Segment at Royal Bank of Canada (RBC). In this role she leads key initiatives within the Newcomer and Cultural Segment\, which includes the International Student Segment. \nDriven by a desire to help newcomers navigate transition and settlement\, Ms. Ye and her team are focused on creating new capabilities and services for clients in both pre- and post-arrival stages to Canada. Under her leadership\, a dedicated Newcomer Center of Excellence team was established\, which provides tailored services directly to international student clients. Along with building strategic partnership relationships\, Ms. Ye also leads new partners’ operational integration into the RBC platform for enhanced and optimal client experience. \nAs a newcomer to Canada in 2008\, Ms. Ye brings deep understanding of the challenges a newcomer or an international student faces. She is passionate in collaborating with various partners in the industry to continuously innovate solutions to address the needs of newcomers. Ms. Ye holds a bachelor’s degree in International Economics and prior to RBC\, she worked globally in various sectors including manufacturing\, management consulting\, and financial services. \n \nLizi Peng\nStudents Manager\nEduplus International Education Ltd. \nLizi Peng specializes in detailed standardization of management for international students. Her contributions include and are not limited to international student homestay family management standardization and enhancing relationships between international students and their homestay families. \nWith over 10 years of experience in the homestay field\, Ms. Peng’s experience with both homestay families and international students have underscored the importance of standardization in this field.
