SUMMARY:SOLD OUT [CCBC Breakfast Seminar] Emerging Regulation: What Companies Doing Business in/with China Should Know about Forced Labour in Supply Chains
DESCRIPTION:Are you doing business in/with China? Do you know Canada’s new rules on forced labour? Do you know the new rules’ possible impacts on your supply chains? \nUp until now\, Canadian regulation on forced labour has impacted only a few sectors importing from China. The May 2023 approval of Bill S-211—a supply chain transparency law aimed at preventing and reducing the risk of forced labour and child labour\, has farther-reaching implications. With these new supply chain transparency public reporting requirements\, companies doing business in China may face heightened scrutiny\, and the Canadian government has issued a business advisory concerning supply chains involving Xinjiang. Canada’s new rules facilitate scrutiny by internal and external stakeholders and require companies to consider what efforts they make to mitigate the risk of forced labour and child labour in their supply chains. The first reports are due in May 2024\, and businesses should act now to enhance their risk assessments and due diligence efforts. \nWe encourage CCBC members in every sector to understand how it may impact their supply chain due diligence. Join panelists Sabrina Bandali and Jessica Horwitz of Bennett Jones LLP for a discussion of what these developments mean for businesses\, the enforcement landscape\, and practical tips to facilitate compliance\, moderated by Stephen Bowman\, Vice Chair and Managing Partner\, People and Talent\, Bennett Jones LLP. \nJoin us in Toronto for the last in-person event before a summer break. In-person attendees will have the opportunity to network with like-minded professionals\, engage in fruitful discussions\, and gain insights about successful implementation of responsible sourcing initiatives. Outside Toronto\, a webinar option (with recording) is available. \n \nTickets:\n[SOLD OUT] In-person: Free for CCBC Members; $50 for non-members.\n[SOLD OUT] Virtual: Free for CCBC members and non-members. Can’t make the live webinar? Register anyway and we’ll send you the recording. \nIn-person:\nAgenda:\n8:30 am – 9:00 am EDT: Registration and Networking Breakfast\n9:00 am – 10:00 am EDT: Welcome Remarks\, Presentations\, Panel Discussion\, Closing Remarks\n10:00 am – 10:30 am EDT: Networking \nVenue:\nBennett Jones LLP Toronto Office\n3400\, One First Canadian Place\, Canada Boardrooms \nVirtual (WebEx):\n9:00 am – 10:00 am EDT: Welcome Remarks\, Presentations\, Panel Discussion\, Closing Remarks\n \nAbout the Speakers: \nSabrina A.
