CCBC Celebrates 34th Annual General Meeting & Policy Conference in Montreal
Montreal, November 27, 2012 – The Canada China Business Council (CCBC) was honoured to host His Excellency The Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, as Keynote at the 34th Annual General Meeting and Policy Conference Banquet. This annual event brought together over 400 business leaders from across Canada and China and focused on the progress made in Canada’s bilateral economic relationship with China.
“Canada has been strengthened in countless ways by the presence of peoples from around the world, and this is particularly true of the hundreds of thousands of Chinese-Canadians who call this country home,” said His Excellency, The Right Honourable David Johnston.
“We are so honoured that His Excellency provided our members and guests with insights that will be valuable to their business and cultural dealings with China,” said Peter Harder, CCBC President. “The evening also gave us an opportunity to recognize and honour those companies that have been instrumental in enhancing our business relationships with China.”
“This is the first time we have held our AGM banquet in Montreal since 1995, and it reflects the Council’s growing relationship with Quebec companies and the Quebec government, which are increasingly engaged with China.”
CCBC is the country’s leading Canada-China bilateral trade and investment facilitator, catalyst and advocate, representing the interests of the Canadian business community on issues affecting Sino-Canadian trade and investment.
CCBC’s AGM Banquet also included a ceremony to celebrate the Council’s Business Excellence Awards, recognizing exceptional companies in the categories of Member of the Year, Outstanding SME, Investment in Canada, and Education Excellence.
“In 2008 CCBC decided to begin recognizing companies that have achieved excellent results in their business dealings and/or investment with China,” said Sarah Kutulakos, CCBC Executive Director. “The companies we honour tonight have, over the past two years, made tremendous strides in growing their enterprises and deepening their ties with China. We are pleased to share their success stories with the business community through these biannual awards.”
During the afternoon, CCBC hosted a Policy Conference that included His Excellency ZHANG Junsai, Ambassador of China to Canada as Keynote. His Excellency also participated in the Business Excellence Awards ceremony.
The Policy Conference also featured prominent business leaders, SMEs and academics in four plenary sessions that explored the Canada-China relationship through topics such as IP protection, the challenges facing SMEs and Chinese investment in Canada. Panelists include the Hon. Brian Tobin, Hon. Kevin Lynch, and Yuen Pau Woo.
